Day Two: we heard about the H1N1 flu

Hello world! It's been a really good day so far and we're really loving Galway more and more.

First off, we are really well-rested now. We got home last night and just slept till the next morning, not wanting anything more than to regain our energy after the long journey.

Something really surprising is that the sun comes up here at about 4am! By the time we woke up, the sun was already pretty high in the sky.

After a quick breakfast of toast and milk, we made the trip down to the village once more. We're still not very used to the weather so we wore out our jackets again.

On our way to the village, Mal decided to try and look glam! But well, that's not the case.

Some of the action happening around the area:

Youths playing canoe polo in the summer weather. While the guys were busy taking photos, the girls were busy spotting hot guys! HA

What a beautiful saturday morning:)

We walked around in the village area more, looking out for things we did not get to see previously.

The unsung heros!

The street performers were engaging and truly talented:)

And this was a sound check before a performance at the Topaz Stage. Even if it was a sound check, they sounded FANTABULOUS!

Amongst them, is a cartoon artist called Adan. Mallory just had to pose for about 10-15 minutes and pay a fee of 10 euros for a drawing. Adan drew a very cute cartoon caricature of Mallory.

It looks quite like her. He would have coloured it with his set of crayons for an additional few euros. He's a real pro at this, having done this for over 15 years as a profession! He had actually travelled down from Dublin specially to make his contribution to the village.

Walking around further, Eric and I decided to have a couple of oysters. They were SUPER FRESH. It didn't taste as bad as people say, it was really good!

LOOK AT THIS, ISN'T IT APPETIZING?

The people here are really warm and friendly. We managed to catch the competing boats come into the port. That was pretty much our first time sighting the boats. There was an atmosphere of excitement as the boats steered in. And as they came in, the cheers from the crowd was so overwhelming that we couldn't help but to cheer along with them.

Hometown glory; welcoming the GREEN DRAGON!

That's LORD RANK, we will be on board this coming Saturday, exciting right?

Before leaving the village, we met a man by the name of Gary Silk, who was at the village with his wife and two children.

He filled us in on a little Irish History; about how the older generation preferred to speak in their traditional language of Gaelic and the reason behind land being divided into small little portions because of inheritance. All that information has made us think about how deep the Irish history is. And indeed, it is. After a round of farewells, handshakes and name card swapping, we bade the family farewell, and continued our walk as evening approached.

Tonight, we dropped in to SuperValu near our place, after a long day of walking and exploring. Because eating out would cost more, we decided that to cut down on costs, we would cook dinner in the apartment; and tonight's dinner was something that is close to our hearts - instant noodles with eggs.

P.S: Our very smart Dr Eric Sim took a tray of supposedly 6 eggs which cost us 1.95 euros. We got back and discovered, to our horror(and amusement), a hole ripped in the bottom and a missing egg. Vani the fairy sprinkled some loving/holy words on the guy who's gonna lead DSC for 09/10. ((:

Inside jokes aside, despite having to be really thrifty with spending, we really hope to be able to learn more about Ireland's long-running history and immerse ourselves in Irish culture. We're sure that there is more to be discovered - and we can't wait to see more.

Alright, we are gonna sleep soon! bye world!
